VELA presents

An-in person tatreez workshop led by Bayan from Badan Collective. The ticket covers the cost of the workshop and the VELA hijab you will be stitching on.

Includes:

  • Three hour facilitated workshop
  • Tatreez kit (stitching pattern, needle, thread, motifs)
  • VELA hijab
  • Refreshments

About the Class:

Workshop will take place on Oct. 29th at 2 pm. Location details to follow after purchase. This workshop is ideal for those with stitching skills (i.e,. you've sewn in a button before), or those who know the basics of tatreez and want to take their skill to the next level. There is a 20-30 minute teaching portion in the beginning where brief textile history will be covered, including textiles from the Syrian region and Gaza region in Palestine. There will also be a demo on the mechanics of attaching, embroidering on, and removing waste canvas (the traditional practice of embroidering onto clothing). The rest of the workshop is hands-on. Students will take home their tatreez work on a VELA hijab!

About Badan:

is a creative design house and educational space that aims to equip Palestinians of the diaspora with the tools and knowledge necessary to practice the tradition of tatreez, engage with it in a meaningful way, and innovate through tatreez to create beautiful pieces of art. With every stitch, we mobilize a collective movement, for ourselves and future generations.
